One of the most common
complaints during doctor visits is
about back and neck injury. Back
and neck injuries are the most common
reason for missed work. At some point
in an individual’s life 75% of people
will experience back and neck injury.
Back and neck injury can occur with
accidents that appear minor at the
time. An accident can cause the back
and neck to move with force in one
direction and injure the muscles.
More serious back and neck injuries
involve disk injury.
Some causes of back
and neck injury include compressed
nerves, back strain, injured muscles,
joints, ligaments, or bones, ruptured
disks, degenerative diseases, and
changes in spinal shape. A back and
neck injury can be the direct result
of a personal injury in some circumstances.
There are many different symptoms
of back and neck injury, depending
on what area of the back and neck
has been injured. Some of the most
common back and neck injury symptoms
includes, back strain, sciatica, herniated
disk, spinal stenosis, and radiculopathy.
Back and neck injury
is diagnosed through an evaluation
and examination, and if the back and
neck injury is more sever x-rays,
MRIs, CT scans, or other resources
may be used. Most back and neck injury
treatment is managed by pain medication,
rest, hot or cold compresses, supports,
massages, and physical therapy. Some
back and neck injury may require surgical
procedures that may remove a disk
or fuse part of the spine. Some back
and neck injury will require inserting
rods, plates, or screws.
